The client, the Vancouver Port Authority, required Lauga & Associates to carry out a study of the market potential for capture of coastwise traffic on the west coast of North America.  An analysis of coastal logistics led to market capture recommendations.

The shifting of break bulk shipments to container and the movements of goods by land and sea along and parallel to the west coast of North America presented opportunities for market capture by the Port.  Analysis of the potential for load centre options and for new marine technologies was carried out.  The figure below shows a Fast Ship concept that was evaluated.
