National Commercial Channel Information System, Courtenay, Squamish, and Upper Fraser River

Lauga & Associates has been retained by the Canadian Coast Guard to carry out the above study.

Goal of the Study

The study goal is to compile shipping traffic statistics for commercial navigation channels and to have an overview of local trends in commercial marine traffic. The areas to be covered in the study are: Courtenay, Squamish and the upper Fraser River (Sumas to Hope including the Harrison River and Harrison Lake).

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the study is to collect and compile statistics according to the National Commercial Channel Information System format. The work includes:

	Preparing maps of commercial activity,
	Gathering data about vessel movements,
	Gathering data about vessel operating draughts,
	Identifying carriers and shippers,
	Identifying and mapping commercial marine facilities,
	Preparing a description of local trends in commercial marine traffic,
	Providing an overview of non-commercial marine traffic and facilities for pleasure craft and commercial fishing vessels.

Scope of Work

The scope of work is as defined within the study Terms of Reference and shall be applied to the following sites: Courtenay, Squamish and the upper Fraser River. For each of these facilities, the areas covered include:

	For Squamish: All facilities within the harbour limits including Mamquam Blind Channel.
	For Courtenay: All facilities within Comox, Royston, and the Courtenay River Estuary.
	For the Fraser River: All facilities on the Fraser River between and including Sumas and Hope including the Harrison River and Harrison Lake.
